Mr. Balakrishnan T.
Chairman

In the relentless pursuit of academic excellence, it is easy for students, parents, and even teachers to become consumed by the metric of the moment—the percentage or the rank. While grades and marks are certainly important measures of effort and aptitude, I want to share a deeper truth, cultivated over the many years of my life and the history of St. John’s High School:

True education extends far beyond the syllabus.

When St. John’s was founded, our objective was clear: to produce not just high achievers, but well-rounded individuals. This means we measure the ultimate success of our school not by numbers alone, but by the strength of your character, the resilience of your spirit, and the depth of your empathy. Ultimately, this profound truth rests entirely on the quality of one’s character.

The information you memorise for a test will inevitably fade, but habits of integrity will endure. The experiences you gather outside the classroom are often the most formative.

Learning to collaborate with a difficult teammate; standing up for a peer in need when it is unpopular to do so; or learning from a setback without allowing failure to define you—these are the real tests of life.

My advice to every student is this: be a lifelong learner of character. Seek wisdom over transient knowledge, understanding over quick judgment, and contribution over mere acquisition.

Cultivate curiosity, read widely, and challenge your own assumptions. Never stop being a student of humanity itself.

When you eventually step out into the world, it is your integrity, your humility, and your compassion that will command respect and open doors that no certificate ever could. Let this commitment to character be the core of your identity, creating a legacy that truly matters.

The very essence of education is transformation. At St. John’s, we are not interested in doing things as usual. Our commitment is to ensure that every student leaves our gates not merely prepared for college entrance examinations, but future-proofed for the global challenges of 2030 and beyond.

This requires a decisive shift in how we teach and what we value. Our rigorous implementation of NEP 2020 serves as the blueprint for this transformation. The days of learning by rote—of simply memorising facts for a test—are over. We are moving decisively from rote to rationale. As the famed educator John Dewey rightly stated, “If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow.”

We are committed to creating a learning environment focused on true conceptual mastery and real-world application. Value in the future job market will be determined by what one can do with knowledge, not merely by how much one can recall.

We are formally acknowledging and nurturing the ability to lead a team, to communicate clearly, and to approach challenges with genuine curiosity. These are the life skills that truly matter when stepping into professional environments. Our goal is to nurture a generation that is agile, ethical, and committed to continuous learning—a generation that views technology as a lever for progress.

We urge students to develop the resilience that allows them to see failure not as defeat, but as a first attempt in learning. As the visionary Alvin Toffler observed, “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.”

The years spent at St. John’s will equip students to become the transformative leaders the world truly needs.

Mrs. Sheeba R.
Principal

At St. John’s High School, we are dedicated to nurturing the potential of every student, equipping them with the skills and mindset needed to excel in a dynamic world. Honoured with the Best School Award at the R East Ward level for three consecutive years, our institution stands as a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence.

With the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 as our guiding framework, we are reimagining education to prepare students not only for academic success, but for a future where adaptability, creativity, and ethical leadership are paramount.

NEP 2020 has inspired a profound shift in our approach, moving away from traditional models towards a holistic and student-centred system. We prioritise conceptual understanding and practical application, ensuring that students can meaningfully connect what they learn to real-world challenges.

Our classrooms are dynamic spaces where students are encouraged to question, collaborate, and innovate. We teach them to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, thereby cultivating resilience and a strong growth mindset. Technology plays a pivotal role in this journey—not as a distraction, but as a powerful tool to enhance learning.

Our teachers, trained in NEP’s progressive methodologies, create inclusive environments where every student’s voice is heard, fostering a deep sense of belonging and purpose.

Beyond academics, we place immense value on character development. We consciously nurture qualities such as integrity, empathy, and effective communication, which are essential for success in any field. At St. John’s, we equip our students with both knowledge and the moral compass to use it wisely.

Extracurricular activities further strengthen leadership and teamwork skills, enabling students to grow beyond the classroom.

As we prepare for the 2026–27 academic year, we invite parents to partner with us in shaping a generation of confident, compassionate, and capable individuals. At St. John’s, we are not merely teaching for today’s tests, but building a strong foundation for a lifetime of learning and meaningful impact.

Join us in this journey to empower your child to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
